Speed Trailer

City Of Olympia Speed Trailer

NWONA requested the Olympia speed trailer for Harrison Avenue last month. We set it up at Woodruff park near Garfield elementary to clock cars traveling West down Harrison. Volunteers from the northwest neighborhood and the southwest neighborhood associations monitored the trailer during school zones. We recorded roughly 22 license plate numbers of speeders and the city is sending out 11 letters of warning to drivers traveling more than 10mph over.

This is a quirky little school zone that is literally flagged by an attendant twice a day for both directions. Most drivers do not notice these flags that hang at utility poles on each side of the street let alone know what they are for. Some concerned parents at Garfield Elementary are working on a grant to get flashing lights installed at this location.

The speed trailer will be back June 1-5th on the opposite side of the street to clock cars traveling East bound through this school zone. It will be located on the lawn at Gloria Dei. E-mail robertkam at netzero.com if you would like to volunteer to monitor the speed trailer.
